Fly Investation Removal
There are around 5500 species of Fly within the UK and treatments vary for each species. Malum Pest Management have years of experience dealing with Fly’s, such as Fly Control & Management within refuse tips and material recovery centres. We have detailed some of the most common Flies we are asked to deal with below.
Cluster Fly

House Fly
6 – 7 millimetres long with a wingspan of 13 – 15 mm. The thorax is grey with four dark longitudinal stripes. The abdomen has two pale sides and a darker central band. The Housefly tends to take a direct path from one point to another. The Lesser Housefly often circles in a jerky motion around lights.
The Housefly is cosmopolitan and has been described as one of the most dangerous insects to man because it can spread disease like summer diarrhoea, typhoid and dysentery. Flies also transport the eggs of parasitic worms, which they have picked up whilst feeding on faeces.

Blow Fly

Fruit Fly
There are about 50 species of Fruit Fly found in the UK, but they are similar so precise identification is not required. Fruit Flies are about 3mm long and have bright red eyes, a brown head and thorax and a darker abdomen.
They are not cosmopolitan and found where fruit, vegetables, beer, wine and similar materials are allowed to ferment or rot.

Filter Flies
Filter Flies are extreamly common on the filter beds found within sewage treatment works where they feed on the gelatinous slime growing on the rocky structure.
Outside sewage treatment works they can be found anywhere where sediment accumulates, or water stagnates, e.g. drains or beneath the feet of industrial equipment
