Garden Ants and Black Ants
In a commercial environment, this can cause distress to customers and also creates the risk of foodstuffs being contaminated.
During the summer, when weather conditions are suitable, vast numbers of flying ants erupt from the nests simultaneously, generally in the afternoon. Mating takes place in the air and the female then seeks out a nest site where she stays for the winter, laying eggs the following spring in order to start up a new colony.
Depending on circumstances we may also need to apply a residual insecticide to form a barrier between the Ants and their food source.
Tropical ants
A number of tropical ant species can be found living indoors, usually in commercial buildings in the United Kingdom. They include pharaoh ants, Roger’s ants, and Argentine ants. These insects are much smaller than the more common garden ants, and are typically 1.5mm to 2mm in length. Malum provides specialist treatments for all species.
Achieving control of ants
Treatment will be dependent on species of Ant. If a treatment for Black Ant was conducted on Pharaoh Ant, in some instances, it would actually worsen the problem. Species will always be identified before any treatment, as with any pest we are tasked to control.
Black Ant Control would consist of tracing the Ants back to their nest where possible. If the nest cannot be easily found, then we must track their trail.
A typical treatment would consist of laying a specially formulated, professional, gel bait within the nest or along their trail. They would then take this back to the nest and feed to the queen and larvae. This method is slow acting but the only way to eradicate 100% of the nest.
Depending on circumstances we may also need to apply a residual insecticide to form a barrier between the Ants and their food source.
